The Creative Current

March Theme: Make Some Noise

Creative Spotlight – Finding His Flow

This month we’re celebrating one of our keyboard students who is learning what it means to grow through practice.

What makes him shine isn’t perfection — it’s persistence.

He leans in. He listens closely. He keeps going.

Every note is building more than skill. It’s building confidence.

At our studio, we’re not just teaching music. We’re helping students find their rhythm, trust their progress, and believe they can do hard things.

And that’s a beautiful sound. 🎶✨

Creative Hack of the Month

The 10-Minute Practice Reset

When practice feels hard, try this:

  1. Minute 1–2: Play something you already know (build confidence).

  2. Minute 3–7: Work on just ONE tricky section.

  3. Minute 8–10: End with your favorite part.

Parents: Progress improves when practice ends on a win.

Week 1 – Sound & Rhythm

  1. Clap a rhythm and have someone copy it.

  2. Make music using only kitchen items.

  3. Draw what your favorite song “looks like.”

  4. Create a 4-line song about your day.

  5. Tap a rhythm on a table and record it.

  6. Listen to a song and identify 3 instruments.

  7. Perform something for someone at home.

Week 2 – Bold Creativity 8. Draw with your non-dominant hand. 9. Write lyrics about confidence. 10. Play your instrument slower than usual. 11. Make a beat using only body percussion. 12. Sketch while listening to instrumental music. 13. Perform in front of a mirror. 14. Create art using only 2 colors.

Week 3 – Expression 15. Write a song title without writing the song. 16. Draw your mood. 17. Record yourself and listen back. 18. Make up a melody with no words. 19. Create a “soundtrack” for a short story. 20. Teach someone something you’ve learned. 21. Try performing standing instead of sitting.

Week 4 – Courage 22. Play something you usually avoid. 23. Draw something that feels hard. 24. Ask for feedback. 25. Perform for a friend. 26. Try a new genre of music. 27. Create something in 10 minutes. 28. Finish something you started. 29. Share your favorite creation this month. 30. Celebrate your growth.

A Letter from Justin

From Justin’s Heart

One of my favorite moments this month wasn’t during a performance.

It was during a mistake.

A student stopped mid-song, looked frustrated, and said, “Let me try that again.”

That’s the moment that matters.

Not perfection. Not applause.

The courage to try again.

Art and music teach something deeper than notes and brush strokes. They teach persistence. They teach expression. They teach identity.

When a student learns to push through discomfort in a song, they’re learning to push through discomfort in life.

That’s why we do what we do.

This month, I encourage you to celebrate effort more than outcome. Applaud the bravery. Notice the growth. Speak confidence over your child.

Creativity is more than a hobby — it’s a foundation.

Let’s keep making some noise.

— Justin
